If a woman asks a man "Do I look fat in this dress?" or "Do you think she is prettier than me?" this question is a catch 22. If they answer is "yes" look out and if the answer is "No, of coarse not, honey" well that still isn't the right answer because we as woman dispute the answer. So why ask? Who knows. So now, if we aren't being lied to by someone or if we aren't lying to somebody else, well, we lie to ourselves. How many times have we promised ourselves we are going to eat healthy, exercise more, get organized, blah, blah blah. How many times have I actually stuck to my promise? The drive may last for approximately a day, maybe a week if I am on a roll but more times than none, I end up in a lie to myself. The question then we ask ourselves, is lying acceptable. In some cases YES. We all do it one time or another. As long as we don't step over the fine line of morals and lie for reasons to protect ourselves from something we know was wrong to begin with in the first place. Sometimes the truth can hurt and if it spares somebody undo pain or embarrassment it is essential to tell that little white lie. At the same time most of the power plants in North America emits carbon dioxide, sulphur dioxide, nitrogen dioxide, and mercury pollution (Cleaner power plants, 2007). As the greater amount of carbon dioxide is being released into ocean makes it more acidic then its normal level. As ocean acidity increases, phytoplankton is reduced. This results in less ocean plants able to uptake greenhouse gases. For example increased ocean acidity threatens marine life such as plankton, carols and shell fish, which may become extinct later this century form chemical effects of carbon dioxide (Lindell, 2008 (14)). Since we have helped the environment to increase global warming there is only few ways to slow global warming. Firstly, global warming can be reduced by using public transport rather than personal vehicles. When people begin to make use of public transport instead of making use of their private vehicles, there will be a great reduction in the amount of energy supply that is being used.   For instance, public transport in US saves approximately 1.4 billion gallons of gasoline and about 1.5 million tons of co2 annually (West, n.d.(6)). Secondly, global warming can also be reduced by using new cars instead of old cars, If someone buy a new car that gets 10 more miles per gallon then their old car, the amount of co2 reduced realized in one year will be about 2500 pounds. The new hybrid cars using efficient gas electric engines, can cut global warming pollution by 30% or more (Seaman 2009)(7). Further more global warming can be prevented by reducing the amount of electrical power being consumed by everyone. This is a very critical problem because everyone has a dependency on electricity. Thats why this problem cant be solved but somehow it can be reduced by switching to energy saving light such as florescent light bulbs with compact fluorescent bulbs. For each CFL bulb replacement, one can lower the energy bill and keep nearly 700 pounds of co2 out of the air over the bulbs lifetime (Seaman, 2009). Using the Natural source of energy is also the best way to reduce global warming. Firstly, by keeping wind turbines in places that are always windy to produce electricity because they dont produce any pollution or green house gases. Later at the picnic, Sharon was seen with a debonair and handsome man. The man had puffed muscles, straight long hair and a surfing board in his arm. Although Sharon had this habit of mingling too much with adult men but we sensed some danger with this man. Maryann and I talked to Gray about this but he was too busy with his drinks and his girlfriends. Gray was an old and mutual friend of ours but asking for his help was futile at this moment. Maryann and I returned to the backyard of the hut, where Sharon was spotted with the man. To our surprise, she was not there and the man had also disappeared from there. Maryann and I looked at each other’s faces and then ran towards the garage to check Sharon’s car. No sign of Rolls Royce Phantom that was owned by the wealthy Sharon. Her inherited wealth had attracted a lot of young and charming men towards her and many tried to marry her to have a share in her wealth, but Sharon did not understand most of the men’s intention. Victor's Last Wish Victor’s Last Wish â€Å"Victor’s Last Wish† is a realistic fiction by Kris Jitab who describes in depth the pain and hardship endured by the main character, Vickramadas Gopal who was an Indian immigrant to Malaysia. Vickramadas was known as Victor throughout the short story. He made great efforts to transform himself to be like whites who he thought were the best. â€Å"Anything and everything related to the whites was beautiful to Vickramadas. † The author has painted a dramatic picture of sufferings and challenges of Victor in his course to attain a new identity – an Englishman.But, his efforts did not help him to be recognised by the white men as a part of them. He was rejected by Miss Cunningham and insulted by Miss da Gama because his skin was dark in colour. He also thought that his failure to be promoted to Junior Accountant was due to his dark skin. Thus, Victor was so desperate to have his skin colour changed. He was ver y disappointed for not getting what he had striven so hard to achieve. As a result, he lost his hope and direction in his life. Consequently, he indulged in heavy smoking, drinking, gambling. At last, he became a thief to steal in order to pay his debt.In one stealing, he was caught red-handed together with his accomplices. He tried to escape but unfortunately, in his escape, he fell into a tank of formic acid where his skin was turned white all over by the acid. His wish to change his skin into white was therefore realised but ironically he had lost his life. In the very beginning of the short story, Victor paid his full respect to Mr.Riley who was a white man. â€Å"He felt a little self-conscious-which is understandable, for he was inside the office of a white man,† indicated that Victor had a sense of inferiority in him towards the white men. When Mr. Riley pronounced his name â€Å"Vickramadas Gopal† in a way that it did not sound like Indian anymore, Vickramadas said it was very correctly pronounced. â€Å"Vickramadas beamed. He loved the way Mr. Riley pronounced his name. † He had no will to tell Mr. Riley the correct way to pronounce his name. Everything Mr. Riley did was great and correct to Victor because he was a white man.He told himself that there was no reason to doubt the white men.
